The belt on a belt driven pumps can break and the pulley can shear off. The washer senses the size of the load and adds the correct amount of water for the load size. Before washing check your owner s manual for specific cycles and use and care instructions as well as the washing instructions on your clothing labels. The drain pump removes water from the washer at the appropriate times during the wash cycle.

If the washer starts and seems to progress through the cycle well but doesn t move to the spin cycle the problem may be with the locking lid switch. During the rinse cycle the water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the wash tub. Once the washer door is closed the washer can begin operating. Although the process is fairly simple there are a number of problems that may occur.

The pump s bearing can seize the seal can fail or the impeller blades can break. Do not add more water than the washer provides. As it spins it will simultaneously throw water out of the appliance through the drain hose which empties into a sink or drain pipe. If you have a reoccurring mold problem or you don t use your washer frequently you can run a second rinse cycle when you re doing laundry to help prevent mold and mildew growth.

A hot soak or wash on your final load can be a great preventative measure especially if you prefer washing in cold water. If the door latch is defective the washer will not spin or start. If the washer door is not latched shut the door switch will prevent the washer from operating. I have a maytag bravos also it will not go to the wash cycle it does add water scenes nothing after that but it does agatate on the rinse and does spin on that cycle.

You may notice during a cycle that the wash load is not completely submerged in water. A humming noise when the washer is full of water is a common symptom of a failing pump. The normal cycle is a go to for day to day loads. The door latch secures the washer door shut during operation.

If one of the switches does not have continuity replace the switch. This is normal and necessary for the clothes to move. If the water inlet valve fails the washer will continue waiting for the water to enter the washer causing it to stop mid cycle.
